Daniel Werner, MA

Grant Manager

Nevada County, CA

Dan Werner brings 10+ years of experience working across the nonprofit, philanthropic, government, and education sectors. While in government, he worked in Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Cabinet office where he maintained relationships with state agency officials and kept senior staff abreast to ongoing public policy issues in education and health and human services. Dan also spent 5+ years as a grantmaker, designing and implementing social justice programs and initiatives related to racial justice and LGBTQ+ equality.

Dan began his career as a public school teacher in an under-resourced community in Los Angeles. Working within systems ranging from urban school districts to the California Governor’s Office provided insight into the challenges we all face as agents for social change. It also provided awareness of how philanthropy and government can come into these systems in smart effective ways.

Dan holds a B.A. in Political Economy from U.C. Berkeley, and a M.A. in Education from Loyola Marymount University.
